My parents did the tasting for the Great Dane Baking Company, and were thoroughly pleased. We ended up with an absolutely gorgeous 4-layer cake, delivered on time. It was beautiful, with 4 different kinds of cake, all SPECTACULAR. My parents stated that while they were pleased with the tasting, the actual wedding cake far surpassed the tasting. Furthermore, I ordered a groom's cake that I asked to look like a cubs hat. It was perfect and beautiful, down to the stitching on the cap and the dirt on the baseball field. We weren't even able to taste it ourselves until 3 days after the wedding, and it was delicious. We highly recommend Great Dane!

Great Dane is amazing!!! From the very first time we contacted them they were extremely helpful and a pleasure to work with. Jodi is so passionate and knowledgable about everything. Our wedding cake did not only look beautiful but it tasted wonderful. We did a different flavor on each tier which made it even better. I also did a groom's cake which turned out darling. I gave them a picture and the cake looked exactly like the picture. Great vendor all around!

Great Dane Bakery was one of the choices we had for our wedding cake vendor, and all in all, I'm very satisfied with their work. They were pretty flexible in scheduling a cake tasting at the last minute, and had all of the cake/filling combinations we requested ready for us when we arrived. The coordinator, Jodi, made sure our final cake design was exactly what we envisioned it to be and followed up with us before the wedding to confirm all details. On the day of, the cake was decorated beautifully and was so yummy! The only complaint we had (which I didn't even notice until I saw the pictures afterwards, but it was something my husband noticed right away), was that our top tier of the cake was seriously off-center. Thankfully, you could only tell if you were looking at it from a certain angle and most of the guests, I believe, couldn't tell. I am not sure if this was due to Great Dane's error or if it was just inappropriately handled by the venue, so I can't place 100% of the blame on Great Dane. In the end, they really pulled through in baking/delivering the perfect wedding cake for us and they were one of the only vendors we didn't have to stress about on our wedding day :)

We chose a few flavor combos for our tasting at Great Dane, but left one for Jody to surprise us with, noting that we are not really into rich, sweet cakes. At the tasting, we tried the flavor combos that we chose first and saved the surprise for last. Jody chose a marble cake with cappaccino chips for us and it was the perfect match! We never would have chosen that combo ourselves! It was almost as if she read our mind :) We loved our cupcake tree!

Jodi was great to work with, she is the owner's wife. Anyway I had called another bakery prior to working with them and they were not as helpful as Great Dane was. They put my mind at ease since I was having my wedding down in Long Beach and live in the bay area. Jodi was even nice enough to throw in the ribbon I requested for my cake, and the cake came out beautiful! We got the moist marble and it was good. At our tasting the red velvet didn't really impress me but the marble did, so we went with that. We also used the great dane because they were part of our package with The Grand Event Center, our venue. But glad we did!The reason for not 5 stars was because of the experience I had getting our anniversary cake. This is the email I wrote to her explaining what happened. I didn't expect for anything to really happen but she did write me back apologizing for their actions. I wanted to email you and let you know how disappointed I was this past Sunday in your staff. I called a few weeks ahead of time to place my anniversary cake order. At the time I placed the order, I'm not sure if the girl did or did not take down my phone number, but I figured you had my cell # from my wedding paperwork and trusted that everything would be ok since I know your bakery does great work, and you were very accommodating and helpful at the time of my wedding last year. I flew down to LA to pick up the cake. When I called to place my order, the girl said the cake pick up time would be 11am, however I could pick up anytime after then, and the bakery closes at 3pm. I figured I would give some extra time just in case it was busy and not ready at 11am. When I called to make sure the cake was ready, first I was put on hold for about 3 minutes, so by the time I got to talk to someone it was almost 11:45am. They informed me they were closing at noon. I live about 45-50 minutes from the GDBC so you can imagine my dismay. I asked her, if I left now I might be able to make it there by 1230, and she said they would be there until 1230 cleaning up. So I leave my house and rush over there. I called again and spoke to a different girl named Dara. She was very unhelpful and first said that her or the other girl HAD called me and left me a message. I told her, I had not received ANY message and didn't get a call...I told her I CALLED them and that's how i found out. Then she said, oh we were just about to call you i have your paper right in front of me. So the first issue was that she said they called, when they didn't and tried to make it seem like they were right. Here I was, RUSHING over there when I didn't get a call earlier, a message, or anything. I said to her, how can you expect to call me 15 minutes before you are closing and get there to pick this up? I explained to her that I live in northern CA, that I flew down to get this cake, and that it wouldn't be possible for me to pick it up another time, and I was about 40 minutes away, so could they please wait until i get there even if it was AFTER 12:30. She says to me "No we cannot stay, we HAVE to leave at 12:30". I thought that was pretty ridiculous, because they actually stayed until 1pm. Anyway so I ask what I can do because I don't know if I can make it there by 12:30, and that I was on my way. She told me that they could drop it off at Rite Aid next door, and leave it in the refrigerated area. She said she would call me if it was after 1230 and they were going to leave it at Rite Aid. So I told her, ok...then as I was about to hang up, I asked her, "Do you have my cell phone number?" and she said "No, let me get it from you." I'm thinking how is she supposed to call me when she doesn't' have my number. So at this point, I'm glad they came up with a resolution, but still upset that they would not have the courtesy to wait 5-10 minutes past 1230 so i could just pick it up from them and have the cake be safe. So I rush over and i get there around 12:27, get the cake and then ate next door. When I left the restaurant, I saw another lady pounding on the door and get her cake and this was at 1pm. So now I'm thinking that, wow...these girls cannot be trusted they tell me they have to leave yet they waited for this other lady to give her the cake and didn't leave until 1pm. I was really disappointed in the whole situation and the lack of regard for customer service these 2 girls had, it seemed that they just wanted to get out of there on 4th of july weekend. I even asked to speak to you but you were not there. So, hence the email. I just wanted to let you know that I was going to give a good review but I feel like this has shaken my view of the bakery and it's staff. I would have appreciated it if, they had known they were closing early to call their customer's 1-2 hours before and let them know, because 15 minutes was not enough time to expect someone who is almost an hour away to pick it up. It was a very stressful and uncalled for situation, and I felt that they could have handled it much better. It just wasn't right, and I let her know I had brought my family along too so they had to rush and were going to buy things at the bakery, but since they closed early they lost our business, but they lost my faith in your bakery as well. Everything that day could have been avoided by a simple call ahead of time, or a simple courtesy of staying a little past 12:30, but they were so un-accomodating to me and then the fact that they stayed until 1pm for someone else is beyond me.

I believe the woman we worked with is Jody, she was wonderful. Our venue offered three different bakeries that we could get our cake from. I brought a few photos of cakes I liked to her and she was very open and responsive to my wants and ideas. We were contracted to get a free basic cake for up to 100 people, I believe, which is how much we had. We wanted a few upgrades to fresh fruit and different flavors for each layer. She did it no problem and only charged us $25 for the upgrades...not bad for a wedding cake! The cake was gorgeous! It looked exactly how I had envisioned and it tasted amazing! There was quite a bit left over and everyone was fighting over it to take it home. I only got a couple bites when we did the cake cutting, which I was sad about. I am looking forward to the free cake they offer for our one-year anniversary! Highly recommend Great Dane Bakery!

Our cake was probably one of the biggest hits at our wedding. Guests are still telling us how yummy and beautiful our cake was! The three different layers were all sooo delicious and the cake was decorated perfectly! My husband and I cant wait until our 1 year anniversary so we can receive another cake from them! YUMMY!!

STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE GETTING A WEDDING CAKE!My wife and I had to go with "Great Dane" because it was in our WEDDING package from the Patina group who were catering our wedding reception or else we would have chosen a competent bakery. To simplify all the errors we have encountered from this sub-standard bakery I have listed them in numerical order.1). They gave us THE WRONG WEDDING CAKE!!! The biggest error any bakery can make and they did it! I would rather had food poisoning then to have the wrong wedding cake for our wedding. We went to their bakery and tasted numerous fillings and frosting and after all being AVERAGE we settle for a chocolate cake with a mango filling with fresh mangos inside and a white outer frosting. Everything else was a catalyst for type two diabetes. 2). Since it was in a package we had paid for with the catering company we DID NOT GET A REFUND. Instead our "refund" was a single layer cake of the right flavor which was OK but our wedding cake was THREE LAYERS not a single layer. They probably have stayed in business by not giving out refunds. Also our "refund" was given to us for our "free" anniversary cake a year later but there is another error yet to come.3). As I stated with them you get a free anniversary cake a year after wedding date so they were still going to give us a anniversary cake since the first one was a "refund". So we just picked up our anniversary cake and guess what? IT'S THE WRONG FLAVOR AGAIN!!!!!!! HOW DO YOU GET THE FLAVORS WRONG TWICE??!?! It's chocolate and mango with white frosting it's not Rocket Science or even Science 101. Instead of mango it was a custard filling and it was HORRENDOUS! It's extremely sweet and the frosting was more than greasy especially since I ran the knife under the faucet with hot water and the grease from the frosting was hydrophobic and repelled all water off of it instead of melting. The cake was so sweet and inedible I just wanted to throw the rest away but the only reason I am holding on to it as evidence when I call and complain about their service and product and then I might send it back to them because I want that no where near any plates my wife and I eat off of.Once again save yourself the headache and trouble and go to another bakery that can get simple flavors right.

Our cake was SO good! And it looked so pretty, too! :) When I walked into the reception room for the first time after it was decorated, I was so happy when I saw the cake. It was just how I invisioned it. Our flavors were, bottom to top: marble cake with vanilla bavarian filling, white cake with tiramisu filling, and chocolate cake with vanilla bavarian filling. Several people came up to me during the reception to tell me how good it tasted!I can't give them a perfect score, however, because there was some confusion during the planning process. I had to bring in my own ribbon for the cake decoration, but I was not told what kind of ribbon to bring in. I found some ribbon that matched my color exactly, but after I brought it in, I was strongly told that it was the wrong kind of ribbon. I was not in anyway a Bridezilla (I was told by friends and family that I was the most relaxed bride they had ever known!) but I felt that it was assumed that I was. I don't know anything about ribbon (I wasn't even sure where to buy it) and I had no idea that the kind of ribbon I brought in would make a difference, but it apparently does. (So make sure you bring in SATIN ribbon :) That was the only instance I was treated that way (and it was over the phone, not in the store) but it still made an impression, so I wanted to include it in my review.BOTTOM LINE: I would still highly recommend this bakery for your wedding cake. You will be very happy with the results (and get to eat some delicious cake!)

When we went for the cake tasting with Jodi -- we booked her right away!! Her cake flavors were unbelievable. Very unique and delicious!!! It was so good that we ordered a birthday cake for our sis in law couple weeks after that haha. Jodi was very good in presenting all the designs and guiding us. I wanted to use the brown and blue ribbon and she gave me a sample of butter cream and told me to try it on the ribbon since the colors might fade and not look nice. She was very honest and helpful with our decisions. She was ON TIME on the day of and did a great job. The cake was phenomenal!!! All the guests loved the cake plus we will get to eat it again on our anniversary!! Great Dane makes the best wedding cakes!!

We were recommended to use one of two area bakeries for our cake. We made an appointment with Great Dane and decided to arrive an hour early to observe staff and have coffee and a pastry before. The staff and pastries amazed us, but it was the tasting we had later that absolutely won us over. We fell in love with their lemon cake with lemon custard and immediately ordered one for an upcoming graduation we were attending. The staff is professional, courteous and very responsive. They understand your needs and go out of their way to meet them. We'll be enjoying their cakes and pastries for years to come.
